Col Thomas Forster
Nominee: Col Thomas Forster
Nominated by: John Baker

He was a local surveyor and map
maker.
1797--Col. Thomas Forster and Capt. Richard Swan came to survey land they'd
bought near the mouth of Walnut Creek. Local legend has it that they climbed a
bluff, where Forster said, "This is the fairest view I have seen yet." There's
no doubt that they named their new settlement Fairview.
1812-13--Co. Forster was in charge of the militia that guarded the building
of Perry's fleet. The victory of that fleet on September 10th was one of the
most significant events in our Nation's history.
